02-11-2010 Heppner certified AEO
Heppner was attributed the full Authorized Economic Operator status, the equivalent of the AEO Customs Simplifications / Security and Safety certificate, on December 18 Heppner.
This certificate officially recognizes Heppner’s competences as a legally authorized freight forwarding and customs agent. It also attests to a heightened level of security at all its agencies and for all its activities.
In a global context impacted by the new escalation of terrorism, member states of the European Union have been compelled to reinforce the safety measures of the international logistics chain and strengthen homeland security. Thus a new customs strategy and new set of rules have seen the light of day. Since January 2008 any transport operator can take the required steps to become an AEO and obtain one of three certificates: AEO Customs Simplifications, AEO Security and Safety, AEO Customs Simplifications / Security and Safety, the latter which Heppner obtained.
“Despite the precarious economic context, Heppner continues to innovate. As a legally authorized freight forwarding and customs agent, we operate according to logic of partnerships and networks. With the obtaining of the full AEO certificate, representing a real opportunity for our activities and which now is an integral part of our organization, we have thus chosen to invest in the future norms to get even closer to the needs of our clients,” indicates Jean Schmitt, Heppner CEO.
”The acquisition of this status mobilized our entire workforce across all activities during almost a year and a half. It allows Heppner to offer its clients better streamlining in the processing of customs operations and to accelerate the handling of import and export traffic. This enables clients to benefit from standardized efforts to secure their flows,” adds Xavier Prud’homme, Heppner MIS and AEO Project Director.
